Circus Street, Brighton
Status: In planning
We are proposing the conversion of a listed building currently in a state of disrepair into a 7 bedroom HMO. The existing building has lain vacant for several years and will be renovated and repaired, as well as having a new 2 storey side extension added. A £200million redevelopment is currently underway directly opposite the site, which will include a creative hub and student residences, making this area a soon to be prime location.
Our design does not increase the massing of the existing building so the scale of the street scene will not be affected, nor the amount of light reaching adjacent buildings. The new extension will sit subservient to the building. The street scene is composed of a variety of form and materials so the new design takes multiple prompts from the existing and neighbouring buildings to sit comfortably within the eclectic mix. A number of materials found on the building will be retained, such as the prominent Flemish bond bricks, and flint cladding is being used on the front facade in reference to the newly approved-at-planning design for the adjacent building.
Internally, bedrooms have been strategically laid out to maximise natural light into all the rooms. A large open plan living area is located on the first floor and storage areas have been added to each floor to provide ample space.
