Brighton and Hove’s first virtual planning committee finally saw our Newtown Road housing scheme granted after a long wait of 18 months! Great work from the whole team to secure planning on this landmark brownfield redevelopment.

Yelo Architects have gained planning approval from Brighton & Hove City Council for the creation of 148 homes and 954m² of office space on the site of a former car dealership adjacent to our New Wave housing development in Hove. The brownfield site lies is located within a tall building zone allocated in Brighton & Hove’s City Plan Part 1. The development consists of 3 blocks that range from 4 to 11 storeys, stepping up in height from east to west to complement the height of the New Wave development.
Of the 148 new homes 22 % have been designated affordable housing. Public landscaping has been designed by Nicholas Dexter Studios and includes a café, and car and cycle parking has been provided for in an underground car park beneath the development. The smaller block of houses will enjoy private rear gardens, while apartments in the 2 larger blocks will have large balconies, with further amenity space provided in the form of growing space on the roof of one of the apartment blocks.

The local area is currently made up of industrial buildings and is currently undergoing regeneration. Alongside our New Wave project we have endeavoured to create a high standard of housing development that will act as a catalyst for future redevelopment and set the benchmark in quality through a mix of carefully designed living spaces, private amenity space, enjoyable landscaping and public space and beautiful architecture.
