Yelo were approached by the owners of this house as the existing planning consent they had for an extension (by another architect) was mundane and didn’t meet their aspirations.
We went through an extensive design exercise and came up with a radical solution that transformed the whole feel of the house to ensure it delivered the impact desired. One issue we wanted to address was the connectivity with the garden as there was a 2 metre difference between the ground floor and the lawn.
We reconfigured all of the ground floor rooms that faced onto the South facing rear garden and created one connected space that dropped the floor level down in three increments so that the lowest level accessed directly onto the garden.
The proposal significantly increased the size of the house, and although the majority of the existing house was retained through clever design, it looks like a whole new build.
