Kings House, Brighton
Client: Private
Status: Feasibility
Upon Brighton and Hove City Council’s vacation of the iconic Kings House building in Brighton Yelo worked with a large national developer on a bid to purchase the former offices.
The site is very prominent on the seafront and comprises of a Grade 2 listed office building with a later addition from the 1980’s. Yelo prepared various options for the site before developing a final design that comprised of 200 flats, producing indicative floor plans and 3D sketches. We proposed to restore and convert the listed office building into large mansion apartments, revisiting a concept that was popular in Brighton in the early 1900’s.
The rear 1980’s building was proposed to be demolished and replaced with a new 11 storey tower of private rented apartments with communal spaces such lounges, gyms and sky gardens. To the eastern part of the site we proposed a new building in a modern terrace style to incorporate the affordable housing element.
The proposal made the final shortlist for the bid.
