Lewes Yard

Lewes Yard, Lewes, East Sussex
Client: Baobab Developments
Value: £1.2m
Scale: 4 houses
Status: On site

This is an exciting scheme of contemporary houses located directly above a listed underground chalk vault in the centre of Lewes.

This site had been empty and unused for decades, and after an archaeological investigation in 2009 it was found that a chalk vault lay underneath the site. In 2011 it was assigned a Grade II listing, requiring careful design considerations to be made in order to build the scheme while retaining the historic feature.

The original design drawings and planning application were submitted by John D Clarke Architects and Yelo were brought in to take over after planning approval to see the project through building regulations and produce the construction package.
